ENGINE STORY

A piece of Ford V8 history

The 427 FE was one of Ford’s great competition big-blocks. Its Side-Oiler architecture fed the crankshaft main bearings through a dedicated oil gallery, helping durability at racing loads.

Street and race specifications varied substantially. The often-quoted 425 hp figure applies to certain street dual-four-barrel versions under SAE gross, not every 427.

The 427 FE became closely linked to Ford’s Le Mans-winning GT40s and NASCAR efforts. It must not be confused with the longer-stroke 428 Cobra Jet.

Technical features

Important about output

The stated output belongs to a specific factory or period configuration, not every version of this engine family. SAE gross (historic) and SAE net (modern) are not directly equivalent.
