Customer racing
The current S650-based Mustang GT4 debuted for the 2024 season. Ford also fielded an earlier Mustang GT4 generation starting in 2017. The newer car provides customer teams with substantial safety equipment and a race-prepared 5.0-litre V8.
How it differs from GT3
GT4 remains closer to the production car and generally places tighter limits on aerodynamics and modifications than GT3. It is nevertheless a genuine race car, with a cage, safety systems, competition gearbox and suspension, and class homologation.
Powertrain and suspension
Ford lists the Coyote V8, a Holinger dog-ring gearbox and Multimatic DSSV dampers. Competitiveness depends on race series, class and BoP—not merely engine output. The car targets teams that buy, operate and race their own machinery.
