A Mustang-only race car
Dark Horse R is a turnkey racing car from Ford, not merely a Dark Horse on slicks. It was developed for Mustang Challenge, whose common technical regulations help put competitors on more comparable terms.
Track-focused hardware
Ford specifies more than 500 hp, a Tremec 3160 six-speed manual, Torsen limited-slip differential, Multimatic DSSV dampers and racing brakes. FIA-type cage, racing fuel cell, harnesses, fire suppression and MoTeC data logging complete the package.
A driver-development pathway
Ford also introduced Mustang Cup in 2025 as an accessible entry point using Dark Horse R. It forms part of a driver-development ladder via Mustang Challenge and potentially GT4, giving the car a role beyond a single championship.
